Our company is called Cultura (Latin for culture) because research has shown that to effectively treat the skin, specialists must take into account the skin’s culture which includes various factors such as ethnicity, skin color, smoking, exercise, sun exposure, genetics, diet and environmental history. Over a decade ago, Dr. Eliot Battle predicted that the future of skin care would be grounded in DNA. To this end, Cultura is one of the first practices in the country to introduce a product-line based on the patient’s own unique DNA. After a simple swab of the inner cheek, an analysis of 18 skin-markers provides a highly detailed report, which includes the patient’s ability to synthesize collagen, their predisposition to premature wrinkling and create dark spots, how well the patient’s skin is intrinsically protected from the sun and their genetic ability to fight free-radicals. “It’s a very exciting time for both patients and dermatologists,” said Dr. Battle. “We are now able to customize products, chemical peels and laser treatments based on the patient’s unique skin DNA.”
